Moving on to the cause-effect essay

Your job: In a comment below, explain how the paragraph below the burger shows a cause effect relationship. What is/are the cause(s)? What is/are the effect(s)? What words did I use to show this relationship? You have seven minutes to answer those questions.

On Saturday, I went out for lunch with a couple of Muay Thai friends. I had a burger with cheese, bacon, ham, avocado, crispy onions, and a fried egg. You don't believe me? Here's a picture:

Eating this burger changed the course of my weekend.  I had no idea that a single meal could disrupt my plans to such a degree. To start off, I developed a serious case of the itis. I felt the same way I do after Thanksgiving dinner. As a result of the itis, I needed to take a nap. I slept for two hours, and woke up at 5:00 PM.  I should not have slept so long, because I was supposed to meet my friend Laura for coffee at 5:15, in Manhattan. Therefore, I had to call Laura and cancel our meeting. Because I cancelled at the last minute, Laura got annoyed with me, and I had to promise to buy coffee next time we got together. This burger was going to cost me money, because Laura always gets a large cappucino AND a cookie. This was going to be an extremely social weekend; after coffee with Laura I was going to have dinner with Lance and Amanda. But, that burger probably had 4000 calories, and when I met up with Lance and Amanda at 8:00 PM, I wasn't hungry. Consequently, I sat and watched Lance and Amanda eat a rack of ribs while I was still too stuffed from lunch to eat anything. Watching them eat their ribs made me cranky; I got cranky because I really LIKE ribs, and was too full to eat any. After dinner, I went home and got into an argument with my husband, which made me feel stupid, as it wasn't his fault I ate that burger. As a result of our argument, my husband went out with his friends and left me home.  Given that I was home alone and cranky, I went onto the J.Crew website and bought three sweaters, which cost $310.00. That was money that I had been saving towards my bicycle. Consequently, it will be another month before I can afford my bike. Clearly, the next time I go to the Sidewalk Cafe and have a burger, I'd better make sure it's on a day that I don't plan to do, or eat, anything else.

  1. cause-you ate a burger that made you really full.
effect- you ate to much which made u feel full and sick which caused you to cancel your plans with your friend, you gained calories, fought with your husband, and you couldn't eat ribs because you were to full so it made you cranky and spent your bike money for your sweaters. Now you have to wait another month to keep saving money.

  3. The cause was the fact that she ate the burger which filled her up. The effect was that she went home fell asleep and ditched her friend for coffee and soon after she went out with her friends and wasn't able to eat any ribs due to the fact that she was so full. This made her very cranky which led to an argument with her husband which caused him to go out with his friends and leave her alone.

  8. since you went to Sidewalk Cafe and ate a burger. since you ate the burger, you weren't able to met up with your friend for coffee, plus you overslept. also for dinner with your other friends you couldn't eat and got cranky because your friends where eating ribs, then also when you got home you got into an argument with your husband. assuming the burger was probably good, it made very unpleasant behavior.

  21. The cause and effect relationship here is that because you ate most of your giant burger, you ended up getting the itis and oversleeping, which led to missing your meeting for coffee with your friend. Another effect for eating that giant burger was not being able to eat any ribs when you were out with lance and amanda. you couldnt eat anything because you were too full. which resulted in an argument with your husband that made you feel dumb and left home alone. so because you were home alone, you then spent your money buying three sweaters. due to that, you now have to wait another month before you can buy the bike you were saving up for.

  31. The cause was you eating the monstrous burger.

the effects led you to be to miss your appointment with your friend which you had to make up for by paying her order next time. Also it made you cranky while watching your friends eat ribs because you really like ribs. What made you more cranky was the argument you had with your husband when you got home. He left the house to go hand out with friends so you decided to waste 310 dollars on only 3 sweaters (holy crap)

effect: you got really full and developed a case of itis. This caused you to take a 2 hour nap and miss/cancell your 5:15 coffee appoinment with Laura as well as owing her a large coffee plus a cookie. After, the 4000 calorie burger stopped Frances from enjoying a rack of ribs with her other friends because of her fulness. This got her cranky. Next, she went home and got into an argument with her husband and he left to chill with the homies. Since she was alone and even more cranky, she spent her bicycle money on 3 J. Crew sweaters. This caused her to save up money for another month if she wants that bike.

  46. Well, the most obvious thing to say is that eating a calorie-heavy burger caused the successive turmoil to your planned weekend schedule, but if you were truly motivated to meet with Laura, you might have found away to avoid oversleeping, e.g., set an alarm, drinking coffee, staying out rather than return to the apartment, etc. So a person might infer that the real cause to your woes is the perceived value of Laura's friendship, which one might conclude is liminal. :P
